On Sunday, June 1, grab the family for to the town of Truckee’s inaugural Family Bike Day at River View Sports Park, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

Initiated by the Truckee-Donner Recreation & Park District and supported by partners including Truckee Trails, Truckee Police Department, Paco’s Bike & Ski, Truckee Bike Park Project, 101.5 and High Fives Foundation, Truckee Family Bike Day is a free event that will offer bike-related activities.

“The idea developed as a means for the District to support for Measure R, but we now look forward to Truckee Family Bike Day as an annual community event,” said Dan O’Gorman, TDRPD recreation superintendent. “We recognize the benefits of a great biking town: healthier and happier citizens, affordable recreation and increased tourism.”

Truckee Family Bike Day will feature a handful of amusements from a decorate-your-bike booth to exhibitions and introductory clinics at the mountain bike pump track.

For a longer bike ride, there will be a “Legacy Fun Ride” along the Legacy Trail.

To ensure a safe start to summer cycling, local bike shops will offer free bike inspections, and the Truckee Police will distribute a limited supply of complimentary helmets. The afternoon will culminate with a bike parade and awards for “Most Family Members,” “Best Costume” and “Best Decorated Bike.”

Mtn Roots Food Trucks will offer food available for purchase.

“Family Bike Day is a great way to kick off the summer and remind everyone of our amazing and growing trails system,” said Allison Pedley, executive director of Truckee Trails. “It has long been a goal of the Truckee Trails Foundation to see Truckee recognized for its safe and connected bicycling opportunities. We look forward to Family Bike Day being annual celebration of our town’s progress!”
