Truckee Lions Club 5th Annual Cabbage Bash set for Saturday

Residents are invited to the 5th Annual Cabbage Bash hosted by the Truckee Lions Club on Saturday, Match 14.

Come and support your local chapter of the world’s largest service organization for its annual St. Patrick’s Day Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at the Community Arts Center on Church Street.

Tickets for the fundraiser are $40 per person. This includes all you can eat corned beef with all the trimmings cooked by master chef Carlo Casagrande, assistant chef Gordon Regert and the Lions crew.

Once again, Irene Brown’s secret recipe for Irish Soda Bread will be served. You can enjoy an elegant sit down dinner served by the local Girl Scout Troop 692, who are also preparing a delicious chocolate mint dessert.

The seniors from Sober Grad Night and the Truckee High School Athletic Department will provide setup and cleanup for the event. Your tickets includes an evening of dining, music and a chance to win one of the four $250 cash door prizes, as well as one raffle ticket for the many great raffle items offered by our local merchants and our neighbors in the Reno area.

The no-host bar offers drinks for $1 — yes that’s right, $1 drinks.

The Truckee Lions Club is proud of its ongoing works in supporting the optical needs for all residents in the area. Lions sponsor eye examinations in the schools to help detect needs for all children. They help pay for prescriptions as well as furnish transportation for elders with eye problems and collect used glasses for third world countries.

Lions also support the athletic departments for the schools as well as summer youth leagues. They are proud to contribute to the high school’s sober graduation event. They give to the Gene Upshaw Cancer Center as well as the Sierra Senior Services and any others the show the needs.

Over the past five years, your local chapter has raised and donated more than $37,000 to support these causes. This weekend’s event is your chance to support your community through the efforts of the Lion’s Club.

Tickets are available at the Welcome Center for the Chamber of Commerce at the Truckee Train Depot, Stone’s Tires, SEARS Hometown Store, Wagon Train Restaurant, online at, or from any of your Lions` members.

Donations for the raffle are greatly appreciated and will be accepted by Travis at Stone Tires. Call 530-563-6776. We will also be accepting your used glasses at this event. You will receive a free drink ticket for each pair donated.
