Village Notes: What’s happening in our community

Jean Eick
Special to the Bonanza

Trust me, beach days will return and whatever the weather brings we can take it like Tahoe residents. It really is a tradition to have snow for Memorial Weekend and we can always plan on snow as soon as Steve Andersen plants his garden.

Saturday, May 11 stop over at Bowl Incline to cheer or support our local Relay for Life teams. You can bowl too. This is also a perfect time to put together your team and sign up.

Don’t forget Mother’s Day is Sunday, and not only can you find some wonderful gifts in our local shops but brunch or lunch is the best in the Village. Help out our local businesses and make mom happy.

On Tuesday, May 14, at The Chateau, the Incline Village/Crystal Bay Republican Women will be hosting some of America’s Greatest First Ladies for lunch. The cost is $25 per person to attend the luncheon and First Ladies Fashion Show. Reservations must be made no later than Thursday, May 9, by email to patty@inclinesoftworks.com or call Millie at 775-831-4596.

On Wednesday, May 15 the AAUW will hold its Branch Annual Meeting at the Donald W. Reynolds Community Non-Profit Center. This will feature the Executive Director of the Tahoe Rim Trail Association, Mary Bennington, with an update on summer on the trail, as well as Lynn Whetstone, AAUW Outdoor Enthusiast Chair, with an update on planned activities. The evening begins at 5:30 and reservations are a must no later than Monday, May 13, to Cindy Frei at cindyfrei@gmail.com or Barbara Fitzpatrick at 775-832-6977.

Memorial Day is approaching, and on May 27 a special Memorial Day Service will be held at 11 a.m. at the Memorial Cemetery in Fernley. Following the ceremony the Nevada Vietnam Veterans Memorial will be unveiled. The Memorial lists the names of 151 young men from our state as well as the names of eight nurses.

A huge Shout-Out to Teri Fitzpatrick and John Hatsinger. They are the winners of the 21st annual Bowl Incline Roll Off. The event was last weekend and Teri was the top seed going into the finals, had to sit and wait to roll her one game to win. Congratulations Teri and John.

Congratulations to Wayne McClelland on his first solo flight over Lake Tahoe on May 2. Way to go Wayne.

Birthdays to celebrate this week: Fletcher Hardie on May 5, Bonanza Advertising Consultant Stacy Collins and Kay Felte on May 9; and Bill Cherry on May 13. Happy Birthday!

The best deal or steal in the village this week is out at Sand Harbor State Park. Put together a litter patrol and sign up for a workday in June, July or August. Groups helping get free admission to the park for the whole day. For information visit volunteermatch.org or call 775-831-0494.

As always send in your birthdays, anniversaries, and news, along with the best deals and steals you can find, to jeanmeick@aol.com.
