TAHOE/TRUCKEE, Calif. — Explore six one-of-a-kind custom homes in Truckee’s Martis Camp and help raise money to benefit local schools during the fifth annual Excellence in Education Home Tour on Sunday, Aug. 18, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Excellence in Education has partnered with the Tahoe Sierra Board of Realtors for this event that presents a group of distinct homes. Discover the latest trends and creative ideas in luxury home building, as envisioned by a handful of the region’s premier architects, builders, designers and landscapers.

“Guests will enjoy touring the creative indoor and outdoor living spaces and viewing the design elements unique to each family’s home,” said Hale Carr, Excellence in Education board member and Home Tour co-chair.

The first home, nicknamed “The Hermit” is one of the more unusual structures in Martis Camp, featuring a tiered hearth with seating and a stage for family theatrical productions. Then explore an 11,000-square-foot estate designed to look like a series of cabins nestled into nature. Highlights in this home’s design include a three-story spiral staircase of Brazilian cherry wood accented by indirect LED lighting and a tavern-style game room. This property earned the Silver LEED certification and utilizes geothermal wells and a photovoltaic solar system. Wander through a 4,543-square-foot retreat featuring a 1,500 bottle climate-controlled wine storage room and a master bedroom with a glass enclosed walkway. Another home showcases nature’s views with walls of windows, expansive terraces with cozy outdoor seating by fire pits, and a glass-encased TV room that feels like a tree house.

The tour offers examples of cutting edge architecture and building and provides guests a glimpse of creative and contemporary interior design and landscaping.

Tour attendees will view rooms filled with custom furniture that utilizes the latest in upholstery, fabric and lighting accents, including “transitional mountain style” that uses bright color themes and fun, contemporary finishes. Each home is designed to interact with its outdoor spaces in creative and inviting ways.

Proceeds from the Home Tour benefit quality public education within the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District. Money raised goes directly into the school district via Excellence in Education Foundation’s grant programs and the Martis Camp’s Community Foundation.

Tickets for the tour are $40 per person in advance, $45 day of event and may be purchased at Dickson Realty, Tahoe Mountain Resorts offices in Truckee, Better Homes and Gardens (Tahoe City office), North Tahoe Visitor Center, Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe and at Tickets purchased online will be held at will call.
