Man arrested after love triangle turns ugly

S.E. Humphries, Sun News Service

A love triangle gone bad has put a Washington town man behind bars for allegedly attempting to shoot his rival Wednesday morning.

Walter William Nevis, 39, who lives in a mobile home park on Relief Hill Road, was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of assault with a firearm and threatening to terrorize his victim. Nevis was arrested later Wednesday at Donner Ski Ranch, where he works as a ski instructor.

Nevis was moving personal items from the trailer of his former girlfriend, Wednesday at 7:30 a.m. when she told him she was catching a ride to work with a neighbor and her new boyfriend, 31-year-old Anthony Wright, said Assistant Sheriff John Trauner. Nevis allegedly told the girlfriend that if he saw Wright he would kill him, Trauner said.

A few minutes later, Wright showed up at the woman’s doorstep, and when Nevis opened the door, he allegedly pulled a .22-caliber handgun from his waistband and shot at Wright, Trauner said.

It’s not clear what happened next between the two men, Trauner said, except that Nevis subsequently left for work.

Wright’s father, William, reported the incident to sheriff’s deputies, Trauner said. Deputies located Nevis’ vehicle around 10:45 a.m. in the ski area parking lot and arrested him.

He is in the county jail on $25,000 bail.
