Man dies after skiing accident at Heavenly

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE — A Pennsylvania man died last week after a skiing accident at Heavenly Mountain Resort on March 19, officials from the Washoe County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed Thursday.

Peter Deakins, 47, of Berwyn, Pa., was flown to Renown Regional Medical Center after the accident and was taken off life support March 25, said Dennis Trettel, supervising investigator with the examiner’s office.

Trettel did not have specific details of the accident but said Deakins died of blunt-force trauma to the head.

There were no witnesses to the accident, which occurred near the intersection of the Nevada Trail and the Stagecoach run, said Heavenly spokesman Russ Pecoraro. Deakins was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, Pecoraro added.

The Pennsylvania man, an avid skier, was on family vacation at the time of the accident, according to an obituary in the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Deakins was an actuary for Milliman Inc. and is survived by his wife of 24 years, a daughter and two sons, the obituary said
