Man dies in Donner Summit vehicle accident

A Sacramento man died Saturday night on Donner Summit when he was ejected from his pickup during an accident.
Darin Ungewitter, 38, was alleged to have been speeding when he struck a traffic barricade and ran his 2000 Chevy S-10 truck off eastbound Soda Springs Road at about 10 p.m., according to the CHP. Truckee area CHP Officer Steve Skeen said Ungewitter then hit a tree and was ejected from his vehicle.
Ungewitter was not wearing a seat belt, Skeen said.
He said there is an ongoing investigation to determine whether Ungewitter was driving by himself at the time of the collision. Skeen said all indications at the scene of the accident support that Ungewitter was the only person in the vehicle.
