Man drowns at Prosser

A 63-year-old Sacramento resident apparently drowned in a boating accident May 6 at Prosser Creek Reservoir, according to Nevada County Sheriff’s Office reports.

NCSO boating officer Bob Drake said the man, Jack Gibbs of Sacramento, apparently was launching his boat when he noticed that the plug was not in place. Gibbs apparently jumped out of the boat with the rope wrapped around his shoulder and waist to pull it back to shore.

Drake said Gibbs could have gone into shock from the cold water, or lost his footing and had the boat run over him.

His body was found three or four feet under the water, still wrapped in the rope.

According to preliminary autopsy results, Gibbs died by drowning, Drake said.
