Man jailed after allegedly hitting woman with car

A woman was hit by an alleged drunk driver early Saturday morning when the driver reportedly backed into her as she attempted to relieve herself in the downtown Truckee Post Office parking lot after leaving a bar, according to Truckee police.

Joseph Dahlen, 23, told police he thought the female had gone into the nearby shrubs when he ran over her while she was behind the vehicle, police said.

Truckee police responded to a report from Tahoe Forest Hospital, where the driver and a male friend had taken the female for medical treatment.

The female had moderate injuries. Dahlen left the hospital as officers arrived, and he was contacted by police and arrested on suspicion of drunken driving.

Dahlen was booked into Truckee jail. Police are suggesting to the district attorney that Dahlen be arraigned on felony drunken driving charges.
