Placer County hosted another community forum Thursday on its plans for a Tahoe government center, adding a site in Martis Valley for consideration.

Located east of Schaffer Mill Road and north of the Lahontan subdivision, the new site was recently added because the public asked for it, said one county official.

“It was suggested as part of our community outreach. People asked us if there was some place in Martis,” said Mary Dietrich, Placer County facility services assistant director. “… We’re trying to stay open so that we make the best and most informed decision and so we don’t miss an opportunity.”

Currently Placer County services are spread throughout the North Tahoe region and even into Truckee town limits.

The proposed government center is an effort to consolidate services, specifically land-use functions, into one county-owned building for the benefit of patrons and county employees alike.

This time last year the facility services department began looking for properties for the proposed center and received 11 solicitations.

In evaluating each property, Placer officials said they must consider certain criteria such as size, coverage, downtown proximity and convenience. They pared the list down to six properties located in Squaw Valley, and from Tahoe City to Kings Beach.
