‘Maximum’ law enforcement for holiday weekend
August 31, 2006
Labor Day weekend marks the last hurrah of the summer for many people as they visit the mountains one last time before school starts.
California Highway Patrol Officer Steve Skeen said the three-day holiday weekend brings many visitors to the Tahoe area. And that means Friday through Monday there will be maximum enforcement, he said.
“Eighty percent of all available personnel are assigned to work,” Skeen said.
Officers will be on the lookout for people driving under the influence of alcohol and enforcing the “Click it or Ticket” campaign, Skeen said.
There will be a DUI checkpoint at an undisclosed area on Donner Pass Road Saturday night, said Truckee police Lt. Harwood Mitchell.
The checkpoint is part of an aggressive new crackdown on drunk driving by the department, he said.
