Measure S campaign kicks off
The campaign to renew Measure S kicks off with The Fiesta, the Locals’ Party of the Year, at Alpine Meadows Lodge on Saturday, Oct. 14.
The Fiesta is the only fund-raiser for the campaign to renew Measure S, an already existing, four-year parcel tax that has been passed by a two-thirds majority three times in the past 12 years.
The party, which was last held four years ago and attended by 600 people, will feature music by TAMA, margaritas, food and three times more prizes for the silent and Chinese auction items. A special surprise dinner music group will perform.
The cost is $35 per person, same as it was in 1996.
Measure S funds $2.5 million annually for classroom equipment, computers, books, librarians, counselors, class-size reduction and important middle school and high school academic electives that otherwise would not exist in the schools.
The Fiesta is organized by volunteers, and all employees of the school district will be represented on the night of the Fiesta, including the school superintendent, principals, teachers and all staff, busing tables, serving food and drinks, selling raffle tickets and helping with the auctions.
More volunteers are needed. Call Donna Lura at 583-1073.
Restaurants donating the dinner, drinks and dessert buffet include Wolfdales, Sunsets, Cottonwood, Christy Hill, Garwoods, Northstar, Granlibakken, Taco Station, La Bamba, Pizza Kitchen, Donner Lake Kitchen, Tacos Jalisco, OB’s Board, Los Altos, Wong’s, and more.
The auction items will include a cruise for 18 on the Thunderbird, season ski passes at local resorts, dinners at local restaurants, golf passes, ski packages, a tropical vacation, works of art, a week at a summer children’s camp, and tickets to many local music and cultural events. Door prizes will be given away all night long.
New this year is the child care being offered at the First Baptist Church in Tahoe City. Reservations are required. For information, call Michael at 581-3049.
Table reservations for parties of eight or 12 at the time of ticket purchase. Tickets can be purchased in advance at Porters in Tahoe City and Truckee, Frames by Ryrie in Tahoe City, North Tahoe Community Conference Center in Kings Beach or the Truckee-Donner Chamber of Commerce.
