Measure V wins easily

TRUCKEE ” Apparently Truckee likes to take care of its roads, proven by the 84 percent of residents who were in favor of Measure V.

A continuation of a 1/2 cent sales tax passed by voters in 1998, Measure V money would go towards road maintenance on the town’s throughways.

Truckee resident Sonja Harris voted for Measure V, reflecting on why the previous road tax passed.

“The last time we voted for this, it really made a difference,” Harris said. “Before, there were fish swimming in potholes on Jibboom Street. Since then, it’s much improved.”

Measure V would pick up where Measure A ends, but also expands use of the funding to go beyond the 37 miles of “backbone” roads to all town roads.

The measure would generate about $2 million a year out of a projected $3 million a year needed for road maintenance.

YES: 4,846, 84.5 percent

NO: 887, 15.5 percent
