TAHOE CITY, Calif. and#8212; Tired of seeing those cracks in your driveway? Want to make sure your pavement is safe for the winter? Give Lakeside Paving and Sealing a call, to take care of all your asphalt needs.
If you’ve ever been by Sunnyside Resort, River Ranch Lodge, Pete N Peter’s, or even the Resort at Squaw Creek, then you’ve seen their work.
Providing new driveways, rebuilt driveways, crack sealing, seal coating, patching, striping and more, Lakeside Paving and Sealing can handle all things asphalt.
Owners Janet and Steven Gregor took Lakeside Paving over in 2010, after working with the company since 2000. Steven Gregor started out by doing striping work for Lakeside Paving, and soon was helping with sealing. A few years later, Janet Gregor stepped in to help with estimating and bookkeeping. Finally, in 2010, the Gregors took over Lakeside Paving, after a few tough years forced the previous owner to file for bankruptcy.
and#8220;Since 2010, we do everything,and#8221; Mrs. Gregor said. and#8220;We changed the name to Lakeside Paving and Sealing … It was a natural progression. The whole thing has been very smooth from just a little bit more every year. The growth is exponential when you look at it on paper, but it was a natural growth.and#8221;
It’s been all uphill for the couple and their business ever since.
and#8220;2010 was a good year, 2011 was better, 2012 was really good,and#8221; Mrs. Gregor added.
With a short paving season, and even shorter season for sealing, the company does all of its work May through October 15, the grading season allowed by the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency.
and#8220;It gets really busy. We’re getting ramped up now, we’ve got about 45 working days left and everyone is ready to have things done,and#8221; Mrs. Gregor said.
Gregor emphasized her crew is what makes a difference when it comes to getting the job done. With a short season, the crew is busy every day and must stick to schedule to make sure jobs get done on time. All the staff has several years of experience, with the crew who handles paving having a noteworthy 12 years of experience.
and#8220;It can be stressful,and#8221; Gregor explained. and#8220;You’re working in the sun and you have materials that you’re putting down that you have one shot at. You need to be able to keep calm and communicate with each other. We’re really fortunate for our crew.and#8221;
Depending on the driveway, most can be done in one day, Gregor explained. When the company is in its busy season, as is the case now, crews will prep five or six driveways one day, then pave them the next. The crew is also careful to prepare for any sort of weather that may occur, making sure to keep each work site neat and safe.
Gregor added that the company is known for its transparency and trustworthiness.
and#8220;One thing I’ve learned is (to be) very transparent in our scheduling. We make it really clear when we can do the job. We have a really good team of estimators and a good team of foremen who get the job done,and#8221; Gregor said.
She explained that the best time to pave driveways and parking lots are when it’s hot, making July and August the best months. The ideal sealing season is even shorter, since sealing requires hot weather for long periods of time.
With such a short season, Gregor said she needs to be extremely careful with scheduling, making sure each job gets done, even if it means telling a customer it may be a while before they can pave their driveway.
and#8220;We take really good care of our customers,and#8221; Gregor said. and#8220;If someone is not happy with how a job turned out, we do whatever we can to make them happy.and#8221;
Gregor added that the company does commercial as well as residential paving. Lakeside Paving and Sealing also works with a company based out of San Francisco to manage and maintain tennis courts, and it works all over the North Shore, from Emerald Bay to Incline Village.
