Meet Your Merchant: Rejuvenate yourself locally at Clearwater Day Spa
Special to the Sun
TAHOE CITY, Calif. and#8212; Just one floor above one of the busiest sections of Lake Tahoe, nestled onto the top floor of a wood building, is one of the calmest nooks in the basin.
Clearwater Day Spa is situated on North Lake Boulevard in Tahoe City, in the midst of restaurants, bike rentals and souvenir shops. However, once one steps inside the spa, it feels like a world away.
Customers and#8212; or friends, as the spa likes to think of them and#8212; are greeted by relaxing earth tones, natural murals and soothing music when they enter the spa.
Whether it be a massage, facial, wax, spray tan or make up, Clearwater Spa does it all, and more, to leave the customer feeling rejuvenated and relaxed. The spa boasts several estheticians and masseuse, all experts in their field who offer much more than just the regular facial and massage.
Founders and owners, Corey and Ned Riley, started Clearwater Spa as a day spa in 2007. Corey still works in the spa today as an esthetician and makeup artist, while Ned oversees the finances.
What was once a three bedroom apartment has been transformed into a beautiful spa, esthetician Alicia Kramer explained. When the Rileys bought the space, they completely remodeled it into a peaceful oasis in the middle of busy Tahoe City.
The spa is currently transitioning into a wellness spa, focusing more on balancing customersand#8217; energy rather than simply getting the knots out.
and#8220;We feel like itand#8217;s not just about taking out the knots,and#8221; Baelaya Berendsen, manager of the spa, explained. and#8220;Itand#8217;s also about why the knots are there in the first place. We like to concentrate on both inner and outer necessities.and#8221;
Clearwater Spaand#8217;s two estheticians and 10 massage therapists (including one body talk/reiki specialist) are experts in their field, with each therapist bringing something a little different to the table. There are several different styles of massages offered, such as Swedish, deep tissue, hot stone and sports/clinical massages, as well as several others.
Each massage type requires a different technique from the masseuse, while helping the body rehabilitate (sports massages), restore (hot stone massage) or simply relax. There are different styles of facials as well, including custom, menand#8217;s and detoxifying, each centered around revitalizing your skin. The spa also takes its service on the road, bringing treatment to the comfort of your own home.
Berendsen noted that as a wellness spa, Clearwaterand#8217;s services extend beyond their doors. The spa sells an array of skin and aromatherapy products, designed to help their customers continue treatment at home. For example, if an athlete comes in with sore muscles, they can receive a massage at the spa, then purchase a lotion they can use to massage themselves at home.
and#8220;Youand#8217;re not just coming in, getting a massage and leaving,and#8221; Berendsen said. and#8220;Weand#8217;re giving you something to work with.and#8221;
Clearwater works tirelessly to give back to its customers and community. The spa is a dealer for Jurlique beauty products, a company based out of Australia that uses all natural products and boasts clinical results. This is the blueprint that the rest of the spa is centered around as well: offering services that work, but also giving back to others.
and#8220;Weand#8217;re trying to give back to the community weand#8217;re in, as opposed to just being a business here,and#8221; Berendsen said.
The business has donated to several different charities, including the Shane McConkey Foundation and North Tahoe High School, along with donating their time and services to various events around Tahoe. Often, the spa will offer a discount to athletes who participate in charity runs or various races, Berendsen explained.
and#8220;We want to be a part of the community. We care about our clients and where our clients reside,and#8221; Berendsen added.
The spa offers services to both walk ins and those with appointments. There is also a membership service, offering discounts and special rates for return customers. Often times, the spa will have customers return year after year.
and#8220;(The customers) are not just people who come in and get a wonderful massage and leave feeling great,and#8221; Berendsen said. and#8220;They also come in feeling great because they want to see us and we want to see them. A lot of our customers are friends that we see outside of the spa.and#8221;
Clearwaterand#8217;s therapists work as a team, helping customers find the best treatment for them, as well as encouraging clients to try out different treatments to find out what works best for them. There are several different types of massages offered, each one geared toward a different need. Berendsen explained that the spa has a wider variety of therapists, each with their own specialty.
If youand#8217;re in need for some true relaxation this summer, stop by Clearwater Day Spa. Right in the heart of one of the busiest sections in North Lake, youand#8217;ll feel more relaxed than ever.
