Meet Your Neighbor: Dan LeCount

Interview by Christine Stanley of the Sierra Sun
Ryan Salm/Sierra Sun

Fishing guide and manager of Truckee River Outfitters & Fly

There is no real secret; its more about time on the water and being able to find cold water during the hot summer. Everything else has been figured out.

My grandparents and parents used to take me fishing a lot as a kid near Santa Cruz, starting when I was about 5. I started making my own lures, then I got totally obsessed with fly tying in high school, and then I moved up here to work as the shop manager when I was 23.

Im involved with the local fly fishing clubs, and I like to hang out with my friends, but usually Im in the shop or on the water.

Casa Baeza for margaritas, or well just grab burgers at Blue Coyote, music at Bar of America or the Pastime. I actually like old school underground hip hop, which doesnt come around here too often, but also really good blues.

Awol One and the Shapeshifters last summer at the Pastime. They really fed off the vibe of the crowd. The girls were dancing all over the bar it was a wild night.

Its about the people. The locals are down to earth and I can understand their perspective on life. Plus I can walk 200 yards out my front door and be fly fishing, and I cherish that. The Suns Christine Stanley interviewed LeCount for Meet Your Neighbor.
