Memorial for fallen freeskier Arne Backstrom Thursday at Squaw
OLYMPIC VALLEY, Calif. and#8212; PlumpJack Squaw Valley Inn will host a memorial for fallen freeskier Arne Backstrom at 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
Backstrom, 29, of Olympic Valley and originally of Washington state, died in a big-mountain fall on June 3 while freeskiing in Peru. The Thursday event will take place on the PlumpJack deck, and will include speeches, videos of Backstrom, a memorial service and food donated by Dragonfly, Moody’s, Mamasake and PlumpJack.
Proceedings should wrap up by 8 p.m., a spokesperson for PlumpJack said on Tuesday, and rooms are available for those who wish to stay overnight.
