Mendocino County considering plastic bag ban

WILLITS ” Mendocino County may join San Francisco and other Northern California communities in banning plastic grocery bags.

The Mendocino Solid Waste Management Authority isn’t likely to vote on the proposed ban until early 2008.

But the Willits City Council was the first in the county to hold a public hearing on the proposal. Members of the council expressed support for such a measure.

Other Mendocino County cities are expected to hold similar hearings in the coming months.

If the solid waste agency votes for the ban, each city will need to pass its own ordinance in order to make it the law countywide.
