Milestone meeting set for PUD’s broadband venture

Staff reportsThe Truckee Donner Public Utility District will request final certification from the Nevada County Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCo) for its proposed broadband system at a public meeting Wednesday, Aug. 11. Final certification will allow the district to move forward with launching the broadband system and to begin construction this October.The district has been working closely with LAFCo in recent months to bring broadband services to Truckee residents.”This is a huge piece of the pie and one of the final steps in bringing this project to life,” said Alan Harry, the district’s director of telecommunications. “Residents and future customers are encouraged to attend this meeting and show their support.”The Truckee Donner Public Utility District is owned and controlled by its customers and is governed by a five-member board of directors, each elected to serve a four-year term.Regular district board meetings are open to the public and are held the first and third Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the district’s headquarters.Wednesday’s special meeting is set for 11:30 a.m. at the district’s offices at 11570 Donner Pass Road in Truckee.
