Missing snowboarder found inside cabin

A missing snowboarder at Diamond Peak Ski Resort was located at 10:48 p.m. on Sunday in good medical condition. He was located at a cabin, outside the ski area boundary past the Golden Eagle Bowl area toward Ponderosa Ranch.

Ryan Toni, 35-year-old male from the Bay Area, California, was snowboarding with a friend at Diamond Peak Ski Resort when the two men got separated at 3:30 p.m.

The person wasn’t reported missing by his friend until 5:30 p.m. Search and rescue was immediately organized by the Diamond Peak Ski Patrol, North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District, Washoe County Search and Rescue, Tahoe Nordic Search and Rescue and Placer County Sheriff Department. Approximately 45 people were involved in the search, which involved snow cats, snowmobiles and skiers.

“You executed a perfect search and rescue effort. This is amazing. To find someone so fast, you are the best team in the Pacific,” said Jason Montgomery, the friend of the missing snowboarder.
