LAKE TAHOE ” A moist and mild flow off the Pacific willover run a pre-existing cold air mass to bring period of light snow, rain and possibly freezing rain to the Tahoe-Truckee area early today.

Freezing rain is rain that freezes on contact with an object such as a windshield or bridge that is below freezing. This is a dangerous situation for motorist with icy roads and especially bridges.

Snow levels are expected to rise to near 7,000 feet during the day with rain and snow turning to isolated rain showers by afternoon. High temperatures today are forecast to rise into the upper 30s to lower 40s this afternoon.

Clearing over night will allow temperatures to dip into the lower teens Friday morning with areas of freezing fog possible near Truckee.

A weak high pressure ridge will bring drier conditions to the area through the weekend with partly cloudy skies and light winds. Temperatures are forecast to remain near seasonal normals for early January with highs around the lake in the upper 30s to lower 40s and lows in the teens Friday into Sunday.
