Modesto man, 44, dies in Interstate 80 wreck west of Truckee
TRUCKEE, Calif. – A Northern California man was killed in a single-vehicle crash Monday morning on Interstate 80, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Edwin Schuler, 44, of Modesto, Calif., was driving a 2007 gold Dodge Ram 1500 eastbound on I-80, east of Kingvale and west of Truckee, at approximately 8 a.m. at about 65 mph in the passing lane when the truck drifted to the left onto the median shoulder, according to a CHP press release.
Schuler then “abruptly” overcompensated to the right, and the vehicle began to “fishtail” from left to right, causing him to lose control before going back across the passing lane and the median shoulder, where it overturned down the center median embankment.
The truck’s driver’s compartment was crushed in the collision, resulting in injuries that killed Schuler.
The collision is still under investigation, but alcohol has been ruled out as a contributing factor, according to CHP. Schuler was wearing a seatbelt.
Witnesses are encouraged to contact Truckee CHP at 530-582-7570.
