More afternoon showers and thunderstorms today and Wednesday

Lingering moisture and instability will continue to rotate around a persistent low pressure complex over the western U.S. today and Wednesday.

This will allow scattered showers and thunderstorms to develop mainly in the afternoon and evening hours triggered by daytime heating. Highs today are expected to reach the mid to upper 50s with mostly cloudy skies by afternoon.

Lows tonight are forecast to dip into the lower to mid 30s around the lake with some patchy morning fog near Truckee.

A little more upper level jet stream support could spin up some stronger Thunderstorms on Wednesday afternoon with small hail and wind gusts to 50 mph possible within the down drafts.

Boaters should use caution and seek safe harbor when thunderstorms begin to form.

Highs on Wednesday are expected to reach the upper 50s to lower 60s during the afternoon.

A drying and warming trend will continue into the weekend with a slight chance of Thunderstorms Thursday and then dry and warmer Friday and Saturday. Daytime temperatures should be in the mid to upper 60s or near seasonal normals by this weekend.
