More roundabouts on the way

Two more roundabouts are in the works for Truckee north of Interstate 80.

The first will start this summer at Highway 89 and Alder Drive and Prosser Dam Road. The next one, slated for summer 2009, will be at Donner Pass Road and Pioneer Trail.

The roundabout planned at Highway 89, Alder Drive and Prosser Dam Road is the follow up to the roundabout completed last fall at Highway 89 and Donner Pass Road ” both as part of the development agreement for Gray’s Crossing, paid for by East West Partners, said Todd Landry, senior engineer for the town.

“We’ll be starting in June assuming all goes well, and be done in three or four months,” Landry said.

The construction may mean closing Alder Drive, but Landry said that would happen when school is not in session.

Because of the possible closure, a second roundabout at Donner Pass Road and Pioneer Trail will be put off until the following construction season, he said.

The new roundabout will be partially paid for by the developers of the Pioneer Commerce Center, and will access both the commerce center and the Truckee Donner Recreation and Parks District community center on the other side of Donner Pass Road, Landry said.

Town Council postponed discussion of the Donner Pass Road/Pioneer Trail roundabout until the next regular meeting on March 6.
