Morrison named Washoe superintendent

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. and#8212; Heath Morrison will be the next Washoe County School District superintendent.
The WCSD Board of Trustees chose Morrison, 42, over five other candidates at a special board meeting Saturday in Reno. Morrison, a community superintendent for the Montgomery County Public School District in Maryland, will succeed Paul Dugan, who retires Aug. 1 after holding the post for five years.
and#8220;There’s just been tremendous excitement for me,and#8221; Morrison said in a Saturday phone interview. and#8220;It’s a thrill for me personally; I’m just excited about what we’re going to be able to accomplish.and#8221;
Board chairwoman Barbara Clark said Morrison’s communication skills and his ability to involve all stakeholders and#8212; teachers, parents, the community and administrators and#8212; were what sold the board on Morrison.
Morrison oversees about 23,000 students at 34 schools in Montgomery County.
Morrison and wife Jennifer are parents to two children, a girl who will start seventh grade this fall and a boy who will be a fourth grader. Jennifer Morrison is a teacher in Montgomery County.
