Motorist killed in I-80 crash near Floriston

A 66-year-old woman was killed Monday after being involved in a roll-over vehicle accident near Floriston.

With weather and road conditions rainy and wet, the victim was riding in the right front passenger seat of a 1999 Nissan Pathfinder, piloted by a 43-year-old woman.

According to a collision report issued by California Highway Patrol, the driver lost control of the vehicle on the wet pavement and swerved into the dirt embankment on the right shoulder west of Floriston, causing it to roll.

The driver was wearing her seat belt and sustained minor injuries, according to CHP Officer Steve Skeen.

The older woman was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the SUV as it rolled over.

The accident occurred on May 26, about 1:45 p.m. on the west-bound side of Interstate 80.

Officials are not releasing the names of those involved in the accident and the case is still under investigation, according to Skeen.
