What a wonderful evening last Friday night at the Benefit Concert for Christine Blanchard Ayres at the old Truckee Community Center. For those of us who attended we will not soon forget this evening of music, friends, love and hope.

I just spoke with Chris a few minutes ago and she wanted to thank everyone who helped organize this wonderful evening and for those who attended. and#8220;This was just like a family party,and#8221; said Chris, and#8220;and it exemplified just how wonderful a community Truckee is.and#8221;

Longtime friends Dougie Ingoldsby (and his wife Jenai Huff), Kenny Loggins and Stan Weisner made special appearances to honor their special friend, Chris. and#8220;I went to school with Dougie in junior high, and then in high school he and Kenny began playing music together.and#8221; Although they did not go to the same high school, Dougie and Kenny would practice together whenever possible, and and#8220;I was their first fan and audience of one,and#8221; said Chris.

Another long time friend, Stan Weisner, did a solo performance, then joined in later with the other musicians to get the audience rocking. and#8220;Stan and his wife have been very special friends and have helped Bob and me out so much during my illness. They have a home in Tahoe Donner, and they have housed many of our friends who have come up to visit me.and#8221;

Also featured in this evening of music and friends were the and#8220;Ben and#8216;Jammin’ Allstarsand#8221; from the Truckee/Tahoe area, with participation by and#8220;Benand#8221; Martin, Kimba Madsen, Garrison Green and Mike Becker.

and#8220;This was a wonderful evening of music, dancing (in the aisles and any other available floor space), joy, love and hope,and#8221; said Chris. and#8220;As I was dancing with Susie Wright, my hospice nurse and close friend, I realized just what good hands I am in with her, my doctors, my Truckee and lifetime friends, and my husband Bob who has been there for me constantly.and#8221;

Last runs? I am not sure whether our last runs at Squaw Valley on Saturday afternoon were indeed the last for this ski season or whether we might sneak in a few more next weekend at Alpine. Alan and I met some of his friends and we hit various runs off of the Headwall Chair and enjoyed some of the best corn snow we have skied in years.

Alan had been grumbling because Headwall was closed midweek, but we certainly enjoyed the fact that the runs we skied weren’t bumped out up to our chins. Although windy, it was a really great day and was reminiscent of just how great this ski season was. Here’s to next season!
