Nevada casino win down 14.6 percent in January
CARSON CITY, Nev. ” Nevada casinos reported another bad month for gambling winnings in January.
Casinos reported that winnings fell 14.6 percent in the first month of 2009 compared with January 2008, marking the 13th straight monthly decline.
Taxable revenues based on the casino win are down a staggering 42.3 percent compared with a year ago.
Taxes based on the casino win are a major revenue source for the state, and those revenues are down 20.3 percent for the first eight months of the fiscal year.
The numbers are part of a bleak monthly report released Tuesday by the state Gaming Control Board.
Statewide, casinos won almost $908.6 million during the month, compared with a win of almost $1.1 billion in January 2008.
