Nevada County Assessor: Ignore ‘assessments’

Sun Staff Report

NEVADA COUNTY “-Nevada County Assessor Dale Flippin is asking residents to ignore letters asking them to pay a Los Angeles firm to file for a property-tax reassessment.

While the business practice is perfectly legal, Flippin said, the county does not charge for, nor do they work with third parties to conduct reassessments.

The letters ask people to send $179 by Feb. 26 to a Los Angeles company, Property Tax Reassessment, to prepare the reassessment to the county assessor’s office. Those who do not send in the fee by that date are subject to a $30 late fee.

Flippin said he has received about 30 calls in the last 48 hours about such letters that have been received in the mail.
