Nevada County digs through state budget

NEVADA COUNTY ” Like Placer County, Nevada County is also sorting through the implications of the state’s new budget.

Fifth District Supervisor Ted Owens, who represents eastern Nevada County and Truckee, said the county is hopeful the state will get back on track with reimbursements of services already rendered, but said he is wondering when the state might start borrowing from local jurisdictions.

“We’re waiting for the other shoe to drop,” Owens said.

But while waiting for the state, Owens said he’s headed to Washington D.C. on March 7 as part of the National Association of Counties to dig into the stimulus.

“I’m carrying a list of shovel-ready projects in my pocket, trying to figure out how we can best position ourselves for some of those funds,” Owens said.
