The Associated Press

NEVADA COUNTY, Calif. and#8212; Nevada County ranked as California’s 11 healthiest county, according to a study released by the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Wednesday.

The second annual County Health Rankings report evaluated wellness in nearly 3,000 U.S. counties. The report compares counties within each state based on vital statistics information and government surveys.

Researchers looked at various indicators, such as:

* Clinical care;

* Health behaviors;

* Mortality rates; and

* Social and economic factors.

Nevada County ranked ahead of neighboring Yuba County, which occupied the lowly 52nd spot on the list, but lagged behind Placer County, which ranked as California’s third healthiest. Sierra County was unranked due to its small population.
