Sun News ServicePartly fueled by ski resort openings, Nevada County’s unemployment rate declined again in October to 3.6 percent, three percentage points below the state average and the fifth lowest in California.Unemployment declined 0.1 percent from September to October and was 0.8 percent below the October 2003 total, according to figures released Monday by the state Employment Development Department.Total employment in the county stood at 28,960 in October. The arts, entertainment and recreation sector had the largest increase – 8 percent – as ski resorts hired seasonal workers.Employment in the wholesale sector was down 4.3 percent from a year earlier, reflecting a trend that began in September.State government employment dropped 16.9 percent, attributed to the hiring freeze imposed by former Gov. Gray Davis.Statewide, unemployment stood at 6.6 percent.Yuba County reported 11 percent unemployment in October, while Placer County was among the lowest in the state at 4 percent.—More unemployment;PAGEID=4&SUBID=
