New member for school group

A new face will advise the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District on how to combat declining enrollment and allocate school recourses.

Johanna Monforte, a parent of district students and a 1979 North Tahoe High School alumni, joined the Tahoe Truckee Restructuring and Reconfiguration Advisory Committee ” a 10-member group.

The news is good for some parents who expressed concern over the geographical interests of the committee members, according to the school district’s consultant, Carol Brush.

“Parents from the Tahoe Lake area have expressed concern that the vacated [Tahoe Truckee Restructuring and Reconfiguration Advisory Committee] position should be filled by a parent who resides in the Tahoe Lake area,” she said.

Monforte replaces Karen Roske, who also has children enrolled in a Tahoe City school, but stepped down, presumably because of scheduling conflicts.

Originally a tentative timeline suggested a final recommendation of the committee’s proposed action to the board of education by March, but things will take longer, according to Brush.

“I think we’ll be working for a while, you can’t rush these decisions, because they affect kids,” she said.

Committee members will be compensated $500 each.
