HOMEWOOD, Calif. — Did you know that the typical American gains about five pounds between Thanksgiving and Christmas?
What’s more, parties and travel can put a monkey wrench in even the most dedicated person’s fitness routine. Add increased alcohol and sugar consumption, and you have a perfect storm for a stressed-out season.
Missy Sandeman, of Missy’s Body Garage in Homewood, says healthy intentions shouldn’t be postponed until the New Year.
She and and fellow trainer Colleen Conners-Pace will offer strategies for success and exercise tips at the West Shore’s newest fitness hub on Monday, Nov. 17, from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
“Realize that hard-core dieting and time-consuming workouts are unrealistic during this crazy time,” Sandeman says. “So, challenge yourself to not gain any weight and commit to at least three good work-outs a week.”
Sandeman says the upcoming open house is a great way to discover what this intimate fitness venue offers.
The “garage” is home to boot camp and circuit classes featuring TRX suspension devices that utilize one’s own weight to strengthen and tone.
Not surprisingly, this hidden gem is gaining popularity with locals — of all ages and fitness levels — who are searching for the ultimate “un-gym.”
“The difference between my facility and others in town is that I am a very small one-on-one studio,” Sandeman says. “This allows me to watch and monitor each client whether it’s in a class or one-on-one personal training.”
Conners-Pace, of Primal Fit, Tahoe Peak Endurance, shares many of Sandeman’s fitness philosophies, but approaches it from a Primal Lifestyle aspect.
“In Primal Fit, we use essential movements that were required for our ancestors to survive, whether they were hunting, gathering or running from a predator,” Conners-Pace explains. “It’s fun, challenging and geared toward making you lean, strong and healthy.”
Along with a big dose of inspiration, the Healthy Holiday Challenge Open House will also provide light appetizers and wine to fortify participants.
Missy’s Body Garage is located at 5065 Westlake Blvd., just south of Swiss Lakewood Restaurant.
Both Sandeman and Conners-Pace are certified trainers and offer personal training sessions as well.
