Nordic skiers race through snowstorm

Sun Staff reports

Mark Nadell/Provided to the SunSophie Aaron of team Justice League races through snowy conditions in the Sierra Nordic Relays on Sunday.

Thinking up all the clever team names had to have been more fun than the actual Sierra Nordic Relays on Sunday. At least for those who enjoy seeing beyond 50 feet without snow pelting their eyeballs.

Then again, maybe the adventure associated with the stormy race conditions served as a draw, as about 70 skiers ” 23 teams of three ” showed up to compete in the relay race at Tahoe Donner Cross Country.

The Three Tenors, made up of Elyah Gordon, Jakub Benes and Martin Benes, took the top spot in the men’s open relay, finishing the two, 2.5-kilometer laps in 42:37.

The Irish National Team of Beth Reid, Joanne Reid and Annika Taylor placed first in the women’s open relay with a time of 46:53.

In the mixed division, Mustang Sally and the Rough Riders ” Ambrose Toscano, Cathy Howard and Mike Hoffman ” finished first in 50:29.

Justice League, made up of Sophie Aaron, Dayna Stimson and Bernie Nelson, captured the top spot in the junior women’s division with a time of 55:06. And Black Stallions, with Adam Wright, Justin Ondry and Miles Heapes, was first in the junior men’s division.
