The Boys and Girls Club of North Lake Tahoe is looking for dedicated volunteers for our new reading program starting in January 2009, Tahoe Reads! This project aims to increase literacy acquisition skills in kindergartners and first graders through small group and one-on-one reading time. Volunteers are asked to commit one hour a week from January until May to read individually or in small group settings with kindergartners or first graders.Morning and afternoon slots are available. Please contact Laura Buckner at 546-4324 if you are interested in helping our community read! This project is sponsored by the Truckee Tahoe Community Foundation.

Karla Hernandez, age 10, was selected as Novembers Club Kid of the Month. Karla comes to the Club every day and is polite, sweet and helpful while she is here. She goes to Power Hour every day to do homework and gets help with her assignments whenever she can. She loves to participate in Mad Libs Monday in the Tech Center and is a great kid to have at our Club. Congratulations Karla and thank you for being you! Each week, all staff members get together and select a Club kid of the week who demonstrated a great attitude and willingness to help out at the Club. Monthly, one student is selected to be kid of the month. This process is a part of our annual Youth of the Year program. Last year the North Lake Tahoe Boys and Girls Club produced the California State Youth of the Year Jasmine Marquez. It is a part of a national program sponsored by Boys and Girls Club of America and the Readers Digest Foundation.
