North Tahoe Fire Protection District: Loverde wins a tight fire district race

KINGS BEACH Richard Loverde unofficially won the North Tahoe Fire Protection District Division 5 election by 29 votes in Placer County. Loverde will continue to serve as a Director of the fire district, a position he has held for the past 14 years. He is looking forward to continuing working with the board and coming to a successful conclusion of the North Tahoe Fire station relocation, said Loverdes assistant Carol Kaufman.Loverde has worked with the design committee for the new station and is the boards spokesman for the project. He also helped introduce the concept of consolidation of the North Tahoe and Tahoe City Fire Protection Districts. His most important motivation for being re-elected is preventing the danger of catastrophic wildfire in our area, especially as it relates to defensible space, according to his candidate statement. The best insurance in creating and maintaining defensible space is best characterized as a neighborhood watch, Loverde said in a Sierra Sun Qandamp;A. If you see that your neighbor or perhaps a property down the street hasnt created/ maintained defensible space, a quick call to your fire department will insure a follow-up from your department. As many citizens were focused on the bigger ballot issues, the Fire District election faced popularity problems similar to the Tahoe City Public Utility District Election.I voted for Loverde just because Ive known him for 35 years, said Max Stevens. If Im unsure I just leave it blank.
