North Tahoe golf third in state tournament after Day 1

The North Tahoe golf team was one stroke out of second place after Day 1 of the two-day 2A State Championship in Needles on Monday.

Whittell leads the tournament after posting a team score of 414. White Pine, the No. 1 seed from the South, is second at 433, followed by North Tahoe (434), Battle Mountain (458), The Meadows (459) and Needles (477).

Laker sophomore Alec Griffith tied for the individual lead with a 79 on the first day.



Scores will be combined after Tuesday’s round to determine the state champion.

North Tahoe qualified for the state championship with a second-place finish in the regional tournament on May 7.
