North Tahoe softball drops nonleague game against Portola

The North Tahoe High softball team lost 14-2 to Portola in a nonleague game at Carson City’s Centennial field on Wednesday.

Laker senior Alyssa McElwain led the way offensively, going 2-for-3 at the plate. Junior Shannon Stack was 1-for-1 with a triple, and Shea Mesa and Alexa Andrews each added a hit.

Mesa and Christina Lane each pitched three innings, with Lane recording three strikeouts and Mesa one. The pitchers allowed seven walks between them.

North Tahoe coach Richard Mesa said defensive mistakes hurt the Lakers most.

“Errors killed us again,” the coach said, adding that the Lakers also had some crucial mistakes running bases.
