North Tahoe softball team drops a pair

The North Tahoe softball team ran into some stiff competition in a league doubleheader with Battle Mountain at Carson Citys Centennial Park on Saturday.The Lakers (0-6) lost 19-4 and 25-5 to the Longhorns, who remain undefeated in Northern 2A league play, at 6-0.North Tahoe junior Christina Lane pitched the first game, recording three strikeouts. The Lakers had three hits in the game, one of which came on a home run by Lane. The other two were also extra-base hits, as Alyssa McElwain hit a triple and Shea Mesa a double.Mesa pitched Game 2 and recorded four strikeouts. At the plate, Mesa had a home run, while Hilary Stoner, Shannon Stack and Mealani Mesa each had one hit and Natalia Roberts had two.

North Tahoe plays a nonleague game at Portola on Thursday. The Lakers then host their first and only home games, a league doubleheader against Hawthorne, on Saturday at noon and 2 p.m. Games will be played at Connor Field in Tahoe City.
