North Tahoe volleyball season comes to end

The North Tahoe High volleyball team put together quite a run in its first season back in the Northern 2A.

That run came to an end on Friday, however, as the second-seeded Lakers lost to Needles, the south’s No. 1 seed, in the state semifinal at Silverado High School in Las Vegas.

North Tahoe, which finished with an overall record of 20-11 and 8-4 in league, did not go quietly, as it lost 22-25, 25-22, 25-23, 26-28, 14-16.

For the Lakers, senior Laura Hansen led the way in the kill category, finishing with 18 while tallying four blocks and one service ace. Junior setter Kelly Hester posted 37 assists.

Junior Kayla Baumgardner had 11 kills, six blocks and two aces, Leah Wall had four kills and two aces, and Haley Burmer had six kills.

Whittell, the North’s No. 1 seed and a new rival for the Lakers, won the state championship with a win in five games over Needles.
