James “J.C.” Krise

February 7, 1935 – December 2, 2014

With sadness we report the death of J.C. Krise, 79, who passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 2, after suffering a heart attack at his home in Tahoma. J.C. was widely known throughout the Tahoe community, especially as “Old Man Winter” for North Lake Tahoe’s SnowFest, his volunteer role in the annual winter carnival for more than two dozen years. The builder/contractor, who moved west to the Tahoe Basin in 1967, had also been a member of Tahoe City Rotary. A long-time member of Tahoe Yacht Club, J.C. was also actively involved in the Club’s sail program, particularly while on the West Shore, racing his Ranger 28, Big Chief. Memorial donations may be made in his name to the Junior Sailing Program through the Tahoe Community Sailing Foundation, P.O. Box 1726, Tahoe City, CA 96145. J.C. is survived by Joyce Drechsler and members of the extended Krise family in his native Pennsylvania. His famous bear hug greetings will be missed by all.
