Nancy Jeanette VanDelinder
On Saturday July 23rd we lost a beloved person. Nancy Jeanette VanDelinder passed peacefully from spinal cord complications at Life Care Center of Reno. She was preceded in death just over 2 months ago by her husband of more than 65 years Harry Ray VanDelinder.
Nancy was born February 6th 1926 to Earl and Margarite Pehl in Detroit Michigan and at the age of 3 moved to Hollywood California. She was the middle child out of 3 girls.
Nancy grew up in a very nice neighborhood during the depression but it still had some very lasting effects on her. Her father, a Stanford Graduate, struggled to give them a normal childhood. At 17 Nancy contracted Osteomyelitis in her left knee and she almost did not survive it. This left her some what handicapped for the next 50 years. Despite her condition she still managed to raise four boys.
She graduated from USC in 1948 with a degree in Sociology, this is where she met her husband to be Harry VanDelinder. They settled in Torrance California for almost 10 years. She had three sons there Jeffrey, Barry and Bradley. She and Harry moved from Southern California to San Jose California for Harry’s career, this is where their youngest son David was born. They spent nearly 40 years in San Jose where she spent much of her time dedicated to raising her children. Nancy would also volunteer at the schools where her children where attending. She has many dear friends that will miss her there.
In 1997 they were persuaded to move to Incline Village Nevada. There youngest son found a home that would serve as the hub of most family activities for the next 18 years. She always enjoyed the picnics at the beach. While living in Incline Village Nancy volunteered for both the Presbyterian Womens Thrift shop and the Tahoe Forest Hospital’s gift shop. She was a fixture at the Thrift Shop up until just the beginning of this year. Nancy and Harry were also active members of the Incliners for many years.
Nancy was preceded in death by her Father, Mother, Sister and Husband. She is survivied by her four children, Jeffrey, Barry, Brad of Incline Village and David VanDelinder of Reno, 2 daughter in laws Linda and Sandy VanDelinder, 3 grandchildren Justin, Jordan, Barry Jr. and Mathew VanDelinder, 3 great grandchildren Jared, Jackson and Mac VanDelinder also Sister and Brother in law Donald and Joanne Alworth of Grass Valley Ca. She will be greatly missed by all her friends and family. There will be a Memorial Service, Wednesday, September 7th at 11:00 am at the Village Church, 736 McCourry Blvd., Incline Village, NV.
