Obituary: Asa W. Collins III
The Rev. Dr. Asa W. Collins III passed away on August 30, 2014 at the age of 87.
He was born and raised in San Francisco and lived in the Bay Area until moving to Incline Village in 1991. He graduated from San Francisco State University and San Anselmo Theological seminary. He later earned a PhD in theology.
He was a devoted Presbyterian minister his entire adult life, serving for many years in Ocean Avenue Presbyterian Church in San Francisco and First Presbyterian Church in Santa Clara, California.
After retirement he remained active in the ministry by officiating at weddings and filling in for ministers who were away.
Over the years, he married thousands of couples, giving each his own personal touch. He also served as chaplain and lecturer for many cruise lines, traveling all over the world.
Dr. Collins is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Patricia Collins of Incline Village. He is also survived by daughters Betsy (Jim) Dart of Las Vegas, Colleen (Rick) Otani of Hilo, HI and Janice Hutzky of
Las Vegas. He and Pat have 10 grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Services will be held at Incline Village Community Church at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, September 3. Donations may be made to the deacons fund, Presbyterian Church missions or Young Life.
