Obituary: Debra Sue Avilla

Debra Sue Avilla, 61, returned to her heavenly home on May 27, 2015 after a 6 month battle with cancer.

Her love of God supported her during this struggle and ultimately gave her peace. Debra is survived by her husband of 41 years, Mike; her daughter Jenna, her sons Michael and Adam; her grandchildren Christian, Sutter, Judah, Malachi, Michael, and Kailani; her brothers Paul, Jeff and Harold; her sister Diane; and countless nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Debra loved to “spend time with her Jesus” (aka, read the Bible), cook elaborate holiday meals, stick her tongue out at the camera, sit on her lanai, visit with her girlies, buy fun clothes/shoes for her grandkids, wear footed jammies, eat copious amounts of garlic, root for the 49ers, have screaming contests with her kids, beat Mike in Rummikub, watch the sun set from Mauna Kea beach…basically, just loved life!

She had an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and positive way. Debra, Sweetie, Mom, Auntie Deb-Deb, and Grammie is dearly missed by her loved ones but we celebrate the fact that she is at peace with her creator.

A service will be held at Sierra Bible Church in Truckee at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2015, reception to follow. Pastors Dave Smith and Wayne Hoag will officiate the service. In lieu of flowers or gifts please donate to Sierra Bible Church or Reno Sparks Gospel Mission (www.rsgm.org).
