Obituary: Dorothy Waters

Dorothy (Dot) Lavern Waters was born to Andrew and Alice Norton of Quincy, Calif., on September 3, 1936. She was the youngest of ten children. She passed away peacefully on April 17, 2015 at her home in Truckee, Calif.

A consummate mother to all, she was an excellent cook and enjoyed the company of all she fed. She was a pillar of strength in the small Truckee community and a shining example of dedication and hard work. Her door was open and her heart was always giving. She passed on her generous and giving spirit to her children and grandchildren.

Her loving husband of 35 years, John L. Waters, and her daughter, Alice L. Waters, preceded her in death. Dorothy is survived by her three children: David L. Waters of Truckee, Susie I. Howard of Chico, and Alroy J. Waters of Truckee, her eleven grandchildren: Miyanna, Alexandria, Marcus, John, Bobby, Beau, Tanya, Bailey, Conrad, Cooper, and John Douglas; and her three great grandchildren: Chloe, Payton and Alice.

The family will host a Celebration of Life on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Regional Park on the river in Truckee. The park is located at 10050 Brockway Road, a half-mile south of downtown Truckee on Highway 267. Please contact Sue Howard at 530.570.7598, Marti Waters at 530.587.7994 or Bree Waters at 530.277.2062 for information.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a charitable donation be made to Project Mana in Dorothy’s name. The donation can be made at or by calling 775.298.0008.
