October 19, 1951 – January 3, 2014

Tahoe lost one of its most gifted, long time skiers, Greg Tiller, on Friday,January 3. Greg died at age 62 at his home in Tahoe City with his wife, Benita Luke-Tiller by his side. He lost his battle with cancer, after a brave fight. Greg grew up in Hopkins, Minnesota and is survived by his mother Anna Lee Tiller, sister DeAnn Mulpolder and nephew Stuart Mulpolder, along with his wife Benita. He grew up ski racing and playing ice hockey, baseball and football. Greg attended college at Arizona State University. He then traveled to Hawaii to surf, and later returned to Arizona and worked at Arizona Ski Bowl on the ski patrol. In 1991, he moved to Tahoe. Shortly thereafter, Benita recalls “I picked him up at Jake’s on the Lake.” They were married two years later in Carmel, California. Greg worked in developer real estate sales around the lake at places including Olympic Village Inn, Lahontan, Tonopalo and Diamond Resorts. But skiing and sports were his passion, and he and Benita skied for decades at Squaw Valley, waterskied on Lake Tahoe and traveled. He also golfed and mountain biked. Greg had an encyclopedic memory for all types of information, but on any given ski day he could recite all the runs he’d taken, the conditions on each run and with whom he’d skied. His energy, wit and warmth will be missed by colleagues, friends, ski buddies and his fellow music and guitar enthusiasts. A memorial will take place from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2014 in the Grand Ballroom A at the Resort at Squaw Creek.
