Jane and Bill Millholen, long-time Truckee locals, passed away peacefully with their children by their side. Jane passed on March 5th, 2023 after battling Melanoma. She was 73 years old. Bill passed on May 26, 2023, succumbing to the deterioration of Parkinson’s disease. He was also 73 at the time of passing. They showed much courage and grace as they each faced challenging long-term illnesses.
Jane was born September 3, 1949 in Carmichael, CA. Bill was from Grant, Nebraska and was born on August 9, 1949. They met in Truckee in the late 70’s and celebrated their sweet love and 41st wedding anniversary on January 4, 2023.
Jane and Bill were well-known, very loved, and respected Truckee folks. They will be deeply missed by many dear friends and loved ones near and far.
Bill was a proud Vietnam Marine veteran, and was known for his passionate support of others who also served their country. He often reflected on the sacrifice many of his friends and family made to give us the freedom we enjoy today.
In the mid-seventies Bill drove the first natural food delivery truck for “We The People Food Co-op” at Lake Tahoe. He then made numerous cross country trips driving the “Green Tortoise”, the iconic hippie adventure travel bus. Bill later became a hydronic heating specialist and started his business, MILLHOLEN Mechanical. He had a passion for the outdoors and hard work.
Jane was a devoted mother, a fantastic cook, and a seasoned antiquity and garage sale specialist. She had an eye for the unique, and had an amazing collection of vintage items — from troll dolls to beautiful vintage glass. The family’s riverside home is a testament to her passion as a collector! She had a love for the beauty of the Sierra’s and the plants and animals that filled the region. Jane ALWAYS brought humor to every occasion, and exhibited caring for everyone around her. She often sacrificed her own well-being to make sure others were happy and comfortable.
Jane and Bill are survived by their children David and India, and daughter-in-law, Amy. Bill is survived by his sister Mary and his nieces, Jeannette & Victoria. Jane is survived by her sister Marsha, nephew Mark, and briefly by her sister Lynne. Lynne, also a long-time Truckee resident, passed away on June 25, 2023. Not to be forgotten is Trouble — their beloved furry canine companion.
There will be a military funeral for Bill on Saturday, July 15th, 2023 at 11 a.m. at the Truckee Cemetery.
A Celebration of Life for Jane and Bill will be held on Sunday July 16, 2023 from 2-7 p.m. at the Truckee Regional Park lower BBQ area near the river.
In lieu of flowers, the family greatly appreciates donations to help cover funeral/memorial costs and accumulated medical expenses. The GoFundMe link is https://gofund.me/9a757499. You can also visit gofundme.com and search “Millholen”.
