February 26, 1949 – February 16, 2025

Janis Leyshock passed away unexpectedly, February 16, 2025, while on a backpacking trip in New Zealand. She was 75 years old.
Janis was born in San Jose, CA and as a child grew up in Morgan Hill, CA. She married the love of her life, Bill in 1975. Together they settled down in San Jose, CA where she and Bill raised two beautiful sons, Eric and Dean and stepson Brad. During that time Janis worked at the San Jose Mercury News in the payroll department. She used her payroll skills to help her brother with the family repair shop, Community Garage in Morgan Hill. Janis had a deep love for all animals, especially dogs. Her compassion for dogs led her to raise and train guide dogs for the blind.
In 2005, Janis and Bill retired and moved to the Tahoe Donner area. Janis’s relentless energy fit this outdoor haven well. She spent many days kayaking at Donner Lake, hiking the numerous areas around the Lake Tahoe area or on the tennis courts. She loved taking hiking tours around the world including stops in Italy, Machu Picchu, Galapagos Islands, China, Spain, Australia, eastern and northern Europe and all over the United States.
Janis is survived by her husband of 50 years, Bill Leyshock, brother Gary Ponzini sons Eric and Dean, stepson Brad, grandchildren Tyler and Brandon. We miss you and will always love you, Rest in peace!
