Obituary: Joan Venice McCollum

Joan Venice McCollum passed away on September 25, 2015 in San Luis Obispo. She was 82.

A viewing will be held on Friday, October 2, 2015 from 9:00am 10:30am at Hooper and Weaver Mortuary in Nevada City; graveside services to follow at 11:00am at Greenwood Memorial Garden in Grass Valley.

Venice and her boys then moved to the Reno/Lake Tahoe area, where Venice raised her two sons as a single mother while teaching high school science. In approximately 1971, Venice earned her real estate license, and embarked upon a new career, first at Squaw Valley Realty in Olympic Valley, then later opening her own real estate office in Tahoe City. Venice served proudly as a member and president of the North Lake Tahoe Realtors Board.

Venice is survived by her older sister, Gloria (Skelton), her two boys, Craig (Cheryl) and Scott (Maggie), as well as four wonderful grandchildren, Justin, Jamie, Kelly and Sean.

Donations in lieu of flowers may be made in her honor to the Alzhiemer’s Association.

Arrangements are under the care of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
